Coal

 The causes of the coal mine explosions was methane ignition causing a massive coal dust explosion and a gas outburst. Families in the United States are compensated for the deaths of their family by the United States giving them 1.5 million dollars each. This compares to the compensation of Chinese families because the Chinese families only get $1,577.  Miner safety conditions are so much worse in China because there's no monitoring systems in the mine don't work and the accident preventions were inadequate.

Deepwater Horizon Disaster

There are many people responsible for the Deepwater Horizon disaster. People who designed the cement, the crew who didn't do what they should have, the machine that had had false alarms in the past, the designed on the shear ram, the tester of the shear ram, the oil industry in general, the government which didn't do enough oversite and the demanding consumers are all responsible for the Deepwater Horizon disaster. But the CEO of the company is directly responsible for the disaster. The CEO knew that something was wrong yet didn't do anything about it causing a huge oil leak and eleven lives of the crew lost. The justice for the CEO of the company would be losing their jobs for not doing their jobs correctly, to help the animals who were caught in this oil leak and to pay a fine.

Current event writing prompt

China would have benefited from the construction of the dam and power plant because they would have gotten more electricity. People of the region opposed the construction for many reasons. One reason is the environmental impacts. The dam could impact the delta during the construction period. The dam will take up 766 square kilometers of forest and damage Burma's key river system. Lastly, the dam could cost lives of people or injure them because it's 100 kilometers from a major fault line. If there was an earthquake it would put hundreds of thousands of people in danger. I do not think the author wants a dam to be built because they wrote an article on how people of the region opposed the construction. The author provided many details on why it shouldn't be built but only provided one on why it should. If the author wanted the dam to be built then he or she would have wrote an article on why it should be built.
